BSES Limited (BSES) is the principal provider of research, development and extension (RD&E) to the Australian sugarcane industry.
We are funded mainly by a voluntary levy paid by Australian sugarcane farmers and sugar millers. In addition, we receive grants from the Queensland Government and competitive funding agencies. We also partner with other research and commercial organisations.
Our RD&E focus and expertise spans plant breeding, biotechnology, farming systems and biosecurity. Our long and dependable history of applying good science to issues facing sugarcane production has produced innovative solutions for the benefit of the industry as a whole.
By responding to industry’s needs to find ways to make sugarcane production more productive, profitable and environmentally sustainable, we deliver realised value to all businesses involved.
As part of the Sugar RD&E Reform package endorsed by the Australian Sugar Industry Alliance and agreed to by industry, it is proposed that we will merge with Sugar Research Development Corporation and Sugar Research Limited to form Sugar Research Australia on 1 July 2013.
